five things: link love

Happy Friday everyone!

This week has been crazy busy. Work days have been long, I went to the All Star Game and Home Run Derby (with the world's quickest performance by Pitbull) and had a couple of work socials. All week I've been getting home on the later side and all I want to do is collapse and go to sleep!

Here are a few things I've found quite interesting on the internet lately...

1. Because my work days have been on the longer side, I've been feeling like a lot of my other projects (planning for the upcoming school year, extra curricular commitments, blogging) have been pushed to the side. Some days I'm only able to get through all my new emails--and it feels very unproductive. Jenny Blake's "6 Ways to Get out of the Weeds" is exactly what I needed to read.

2. Today I bought some new workout shirts. In a few weeks I'll be back at school with a gym right below my feet. I can't wait to try out this elliptical workout.

3. My roommate and I have already started thinking about how we will decorate our new room. This year it is much bigger and prettier than last year's so we want to do this right and classy. I love this idea to print on book pages and these DIY ideas are awesome--I'd really like to try out #3, #5 and #17.

4. I love this article on ways to be "Fierce(ly) Independent." Cue Independent Women.

5. "12 Things You Should Never Apologize For" Amen.

The Flairist

Hey everyone! Happy Friday...

So I have some exciting news on my end! A few weeks ago I was invited to be a contributing writer on The Flairist, an online magazine for ambitious young women. The Flairist provides advice, reflections and resources for women simply trying to navigate the ups and downs of life, career and love.

My first article, "5 Awesome Reasons to Volunteer in Your Community", was posted earlier this week. I would love for you to check it out!

I am so happy to have found The Flairist -- I'm only just entering my twenties and it seems like the perfect site for me. I particularly like this article on the pros of being a freelancer,  and this one on feeling alive. Also! There are giveaways! I'm dying for this leopard print duct tape. I'd put it on everything.

I'm so excited to be joining The Flairist team and I can't wait to see how my writing grows. Have a great weekend.

July Goals

Well, I'm just a bit late with my July goals, but better late than never, right?

In July, I'd like to...

achieve even greater student debt (haha)
read lots and lots of books
start in on a new writing project, maybe?
think about what classes I might want to take next semester. bluebooking is a favorite pastime.
feel the cool Lake Memphremagog against my toes.
discover some new favorite music.
enjoy the long, hot days.

I honestly don't know where June went. I've been interning for a solid three weeks now and I don't know where that time has gone either. I hope July can slow it down for us.

two years

Today, my little blog turns two. I honestly can't believe it's already been two wonderful, crazy, inspiring years since that night I created a Wordpress account and hesitantly tapped out my very first post.

I was never one for journaling. I wanted to be the journaling type, though. Every few months I'd open a new notebook, write my name at the top of that crisp first page and take another stab at it. But it always felt weird, and I'd get self-conscious--I wanted to get these thoughts and memories on paper, but with the words running around my head, I felt like a cazy person talking to herself. Journaling can be very freeing, but it was too much of a one-way street for me.

And then I graduated from high school. And being the highly sentimental and sometimes a little too anxious person that I am, I started freaking out about savoring the wonderful years at college and enjoying every moment I could (because honestly, I felt high school went just a little too fast). I wanted to document, to have something to look back on besides fuzzy memories and half-told tales.

Starting a blog seemed right for me. I'd have my own place to post pictures, record memories and make my own. And with the possibility of readers, I felt like my writing had a little more purpose. It's been much more of a commitment, but every time I blog I become more and more enchanted with this community.

It's been awesome learning the ropes, discovering creative ways to grow my blog and experiencing that wonderfully satisfying feeling of hitting the "Publish" button.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend.
