the beach.

By far my favorite moments of spring break were spent walking along the beach, dipping my feet in the ocean and listening to the crashing waves. I find it all very soothing. It reminded me a lot of last summer in Vermont, when I spent a few minutes every evening out on the dock, watching it get dark and listening to the lake. Whenever I feel stressed I just go back to these moments.

this looks epic.

I remember reading The Great Gatsby a few years ago in high school--and it was a great book. But there are very few movie versions of books that I really look forward to. For instance, I quite enjoyed Life of Pi but have absolutely no interest in seeing the movie, though it's very much acclaimed.

But this just looks amazing. The cast, the soundtrack, the extravagant 20s feel. I can't wait.

Happy Monday!

take me back to Miami

a few photos from our trip to Miami...

In Miami...

we had a beautiful ocean-front view.
we took walks around town.
we visited the Eden Roc Starbucks...a lot.
the hotel brought me a delicious mousse cake during brunch.
I had an amazing chicken, mango, avocado salad.
we went shopping on Lincoln Ave.
I took pictures of every owl-themed thing I came across.
we saw The Catalina Hotel!
I got some reading done by the pool.
the hot tub was put to good use.
I tasted some awesome coconut and mango gelato.
we had guayaba pasteles pretty much every morning for breakfast.
we visited family friends.
we took an airboat tour of the Everglades and saw baby alligators.
we enjoyed all the sun and warm weather before flying back to new york.

five things...

...I'm reading to welcome me into my twenties.

There's always something about a new day, a new year, a new decade that gets me really excited about a fresh start. I start off focused, with a clear mind and lots of exciting promises.

Here are just a few things I've been reading to get me excited about my twenties:

1. Julianna Morlet's blog post series: What no one told me about my 20's. I particularly liked Colleen's post, "In My 20s, I Have Complete Freedom and a Tremendous Amount of Pressure."

2. 20 Things Every Person in Their 20's Should Totally Avoid. On avoiding small horizons: As a nomad on a boat crossing the Gambia River once told me, "Travel while you're still young, stupid and broke."

3. You know you're in your 20's when...

4. 19 Things to Stop Doing in Your 20s: A very strong reminder that we are not done growing up (but who is?)

5. 100 things to do in your 20s. This list was so inspiring and had a lovely mix of the ambitious and adventurous ("Camp out every once in a while, and enjoy sleeping under the stars") with the practical and simple ("Go to the dentist and eye doctor regularly").

happy friday, everyone!

Happiness is...

1. falling asleep to the sound of ocean waves and wind on palm trees
2. listening to The Beatles
3. guayaba pasteles
4. candle sales at Bath and Body Works
5. a full night's sleep
6. walks along the boardwalk
7. friendly passengers on airplanes
8. hot tub time on a chilly morning
9. coming home
10. reading horoscopes

what makes you happy?

more happiness here, here, and here.

SweetHeart VoxBox!

I can't believe midterms are finally done! The last six days were filled with exams, papers, interviews and very few hours of sleep. Midterm season hit hard and fast and honestly during these times I realized I get too caught up in assignments. I don't really make sure I take a step back and chill out every once in a while, and the stress definitely takes a toll on me physically and mentally.

So when I found my Influenster SweetHeart VoxBox* in the mail a few days ago, I thought, there couldn't be a better time! I was so happy to receive these lovely surprises...

1. Olay Fresh Effects Va-va-vivid Powered Contour Cleansing System: As someone who is at constant war with my skin, I was so excited to try this. The contour cleansing system comes with a power brush and cleanser. The power brush is designed to fit facial contours, making it particularly effective in the t-zone and hairline areas of the face. Perfect for a "mini-facial experience."

My experience: I'm glad I tried this product. Sometimes I get so frustrated with my skin that I'm willing to try or buy anything that sounds promising. The Contour Cleansing System is great, but its not for me. It left my face feeling very clean, but I did not see any improvement in overall skin smoothness, acne or redness, which are basically all my skin issues. And to be fair, it isn't like the Contour Cleansing System advertised for acne relief. I think I need a stronger power brush and a cleanser that focuses more on fighting acne.

2. Secret Clinical Strength Stress Response Deodorant in "serene citrus scent." This deodorant and antiperspirant targets stress sweat (yes! I know I didn't know stress sweat was a thing either!) and has an amazing scent.

My experience: absolute perfection. I usually don't go for solids (my go-to deodorant for years has been the original Secret roll-on) but I love it! It smells awesome, applies cleanly and lasts the entire day. I just might be a convert.

3. Skinnygirl Daily On-the-go Bars in Coco-nut. This coconut and peanut butter-flavored power bar is the perfect snack to tie me over until dinner time. They are gluten free, tons of fiber and protein and not a lot of carbs. Plus they are super yummy and filling. I really think I should stock up, because as college students we are always for some reason foraging for food. So while I'm working on my essays at 3 a.m. it would be good for me to reach for one of these Skinnygirl bars instead of those evil Reese's peanut butter cups.

4. Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. This spray leaves your hair looking like you spent a day at the beach. It has natural sea salt and sea kelp which gives hair a wavy, matte look.

My experience: I bought this exact product at an Urban Outfitters a few months ago. While it certainly isn't part of my everyday hair routine, I do like spritzing it on my hair every once in a while, particularly right after I get out of the shower. I am excited to now have this in travel size! It'll be perfect for spring break in Miami...

Which is where I am now! We arrived early yesterday morning and I have been loving the sunshine, the breeze and our beautiful ocean view.

A sneak at some of the products I packed...

Oh heyy there secret clinical strength and NYM's sea salt spray...

Hope you are all having a fabulous, fabulous day.

xx, M

Today I woke up and was no longer a teenager. It's crazy to think I am two decades old. So much has happened these past twenty years and I can't wait to do, see and experience more.

Today is our first fully day in Miami and I have to say I am settling into spring break quite nicely. Last night I got a full night's sleep (after averaging about 2 hours a night all last week!) and I am actually reading something not school-related (Cosmo magazine, anyone?).

I feel so thankful to be spending my birthday with family, perfect weather, long walks around South Beach and some incredible bacon wrapped dates. Can it stay like this forever?

March Goals

Where has the time gone? I can't believe I only have ten days left of being a teenager. To be honest I'm having a little mini-crisis here because I don't know what I should be doing. I feel like this is a significant moment, but I don't think I'll do it justice. I can't go crazy, because I have four midterms next week that will be filling up most of my last hours of teenage-hood. And even if I did decide to go crazy, I don't even know what entails doing.

But enough of this melancholic reflection. That's no way to start off a new month. So I've decided I'm going to make March the best month yet.

In March, I'd like to...

1. post at least three times a week (once midterms are done)
2. read three books for fun
3. welcome my twenties with some really good birthday cake
4. find a beautiful photograph of new york to display in my room
5. strike up more conversations with more people I don't necessarily talk to
6. paint my nails purple
7. help my mom organize the giant collection of family photos
8. drink two bottles of water a day
9. figure out my summer plans
10. send a letter to an old friend

What do you want to accomplish in March?
