Weekend Update + The Yale University Art Gallery

Happy Sunday, everyone! I can't believe it's been ten days since I last posted...I thought I had my blog scheduling all worked out.

But anyways, February is turning out to be an incredibly long, busy, fast-paced month. Midterm exams and papers are upon us and there is always another 284520 pages of reading to do. I'm also in the midst of applying to summer internships, which has been taking up nice bits of my day. Kappa duties have also grown within the past two weeks, so I've been just trying to keep up with all that--so many emails and excel spreadsheets. Multitasking and prioritizing have never been so important.

But it's all very exciting--with Kappa I'm getting some cool new finance/correspondence experience (finance? me? haha...) and just thinking about the summer and internship possibilities puts me in a happy place. Also, when I think about it--I just have to get through eight more days of classes. Then, I'll have a glorious two weeks of spring break.

I was happy to get a pause from all this yesterday, when my mom and brother drove up to see me. The weather was perfect (if a little rainy), we walked all over the Yale campus, had some Indian food, visited the Yale University Art Gallery and ended the visit with shakes at Shake Shack. It was so good seeing them!

But can we also talk about how I've never been to the Yale University Art Gallery? I'm a second semester sophomore--I've been here almost two years and the art gallery is basically right in the middle of campus. Plus, it's free and open to the public. I really have no excuse. I should visit more often, because the exhibits are fantastic and there is such variety for what seems like a small museum!

I think my favorite painting was Ferryboat at Night by Louis Michel Eilshemius. You can see it here.

10 things I'm loving this valentine's day

1. blizzard nemo and the two wonderful snow days he brought
2. my roommate, who showed up this evening with a whole Hershey's bar, just for me
3. relaxing hot showers in the middle of the night
4. my family! hearing their voices always brighten my day.
5. civil disobedience. you know, the good kind.
6. the fact my curriculum this semester involves everything from foucault to evangelical sex manuals.
7.Thursdays, and the promise of a relaxing weekend
9. my kappa gym shorts.
10. my last month of being a teenager.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

What are you all doing to celebrate? I sent flowers to my family back home, and I'm looking forward to witnessing all the valentine's craziness on campus!

nemo has arrived.

so, surprise surprise we got snow. I mean, it's february in new england, and personally I feel like lately we've been running low on the snow count.

enter: nemo

as in, when I heard we were expecting some snow this weekend, I just thought, okay cool just a few inches. and then I checked the weather channel website. the term "blizzard" was used. BLIZZARD. the university is freaking out, all fitness classes are cancelled (haha, like I signed up for any) and students are stealing dining hall trays to, presumably, go sledding. I love it.

currently I've been...

...sleeping through my alarms.
...watching Pitch Perfect (why is that movie so good?)
...taking Harry Potter personality quizzes. I'm pretty sure I have Hermione's neuroticism.
...reading Foucault's History of Sexuality. Also the February issue of Glamour. Hey, it's the season of love.
...doing laundry. haha, finally ran out of clothes.
...eating yogurt and granola.
...prepping for a soirée my roommate and I are hosting.
...wearing my Laila Rowe rain boots everywhere.
...hoping I hear back from summer opportunities soon.
...wanting time not to go by so quickly.

what have you been up to lately?

valentine's day wishlist

one of my favorite things about February is valentine's day. the pinks, the reds, the romance and that wonderful feeling of warmth that goes around.

now, I don't have a significant other, nor have I ever had one for valentine's day (but my first kiss was the day before valentine's--does that count?).  but I do believe we singles can have just as much fun!

and now, a valentine's inspired wish list... (I told you all the pink and red get to me!)

1. bath and body works candle. I really want to try this one.
3. a new book to get lost in. I'll read anything with a romantic twist.
4. forever 21 heart earrings.
5. marc jacobs "wild at heart" iphone case.
6. essie nail polish in "heavenly sunset"
9. a bold red dress.
10. a new romantic perfume.
11. valentine's cyndi bands.
12. flowers, perhaps?

any valentine's traditions anyone? I still don't know if I'm going to do anything in particular on cupid's big day.  anyways, happy almost-weekend!

some link love

Hey everyone! How were your weekends?

Mine was relaxing, just so so relaxing. On Friday I was scrambling to get in all these summer internship applications on time, and I was feeling incredibly ruffled because the past week has been a little work and essay-writing intensive. But after submitting my last cover letter I said goodbye to work and hello to sleep, Nip/Tuck and some very good food. A friend from Princeton visited, I watched some kick-ass squash-playing, downed a couple cappuccino crunch milkshakes, met a couple friends for Indian, another for Sunday bagel brunch, planned a classy soirée with my roommate and quite distinctly did not watch Beyonce's Superbowl half-time show.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it was amazing. Like, epic amazing.

But anyway, I was finally able to sort through all the stuff I saved on pocket--all the links I've clicked through the past few months that I just wanted to save for later. And now later's finally come! Here are a few favorites:

These truth graphs are horribly and hilariously accurate. These would be legit data for a research paper, right?

I really enjoyed this guide to building a college wardrobe. The staples really do change in a matter of a couple years!

Writing good thank you notes, and writing good professional thank you notes. For some reason I see my the art of the thank you note slipping away from my generation. It makes me a little sad.

Sometimes it's just healthier to say no! Sarah von Bargen's post about standards and boundaries has made me start to think about the things I really don't like tolerating. And maybe I should be a bit more firm about eliminating them from my life...

amen, amen, amen! Charlotte's "Thoughts on Blogging" series is a favorite of mine.

Emily's Lipstick Guide had me running to the Rite Aid cosmetic section. Still looking for that perfect coral. Also trying to work myself up to give oxblood a try--it looks beautiful, but I just don't know if I can pull it off without looking like I'm trying too hard.

mini journals! definitely want to try to make these!

February Goals

In February, I'd like to...

1. celebrate valentine's day with friends and lots of red and pink
2. read one book for fun
3. send out more summer applications (maybe hear back from some?)
4. work out at least twice a week
5. blog three times a week
6. change my about page!
7. find other good sites for photos besides tumblr and weheartit.
8. check out a restaurant I've never been to (note: this does not include New Haven's new Chipotle...)
9. call my parents more often

what do you want to do this February?
