Is it just me, or do we as teenagers just shy away from self-help? From all the mushy stuff, the seemingly empty advice imparted to us by older people with knowing eyes and a painfully slow voice?
One thing that I have learned is that professionals really do know what they are talking about; I at least don't always take it too seriously, or I never take the extra initiative to make a conscious change in my life.
But now that's going to change
I recently went to a talk about flow, and learned some pretty cool stuff. Flow is the intersection of passion and strength. When you are in a state of flow, you are doing what you love and you don't mind doing it. You are in the zone, you are focused and you absolutely love it. What's important now is that we stay in a state of flow for as much of our days as possible. Instead of focusing on the tedious things in life, or our personal weaknesses, let's focus on things we can control and orient ourselves to--developing our strengths and following our passions.
And a part of that is analyzing what isn't working in your life, and making a promise to yourself. Personally, I made a vow to be more productive and efficient with my time. I love the feeling of going to bed at night having accomplished a boat-load of work. I love not feeling behind in my work. I love staying on schedule. And I want to feel like this more often.
I guess however my past week did not really help with that. Bed times were well into the morning and quite frankly my sleep schedule is not particularly conducive to the more high-powered lifestyle I'd like to take on. I'm also very horrible and procrastinate. Like,
a lot.
So my friend and I devised Operation: Sleepy Panda, to be put in motion one night each weekend for the rest of our college years.
The rules? Beginning each night of Operation: Sleepy Panda...
- No going out.
- No partying.
- Low-key activities.
- Bed by ten.
- Awake by eight.
- Work out, drink water, and work.
There you have it. A full ten hours of sleep, a mental break, a healthy lifestyle. A way for us to reset after the week and focus.
This, I hope, will put me on a more direct path to flow.
Talk to you soon! xx
