November Highlights

Hey there!

It is so incredibly crazy that November is almost done. It’s quite sad really, because I think we got a bit gypped up here in the Northeast as far as November goes. The weather’s been hovering around the high 50s, low 60s all throughout the month. More than once I’ve felt like a fool walking around campus with my trench coat on, only to pass by some guy skateboarding along with only a pair of shorts on.

But anyway I thought I’d share some of November’s highlights…

Going home: The first half of November I was so very antsy. I think we all were—a weeklong Thanksgiving break was on the horizon and all we wanted to do was go home, sleep and rest. This is the first break since the beginning of the year, so we were all kind of burnt out (my school does not give holidays off, and we don’t have any sort of fall recess before Thanksgiving).

The hour-long car ride going home probably wins first place for most tranquil moment of November. It was just beginning to get dark, we were all packed up in the car, thankful to be warm after tailgating out in the chilly fields for hours.

It was lovely being back in my own bed, my room, my house. I slept, read, baked, shopped and pretended to do work. Just being home was a much-needed break.

I went into the city for a couple days. I’ve missed it so much. It really is pretty.

Went to see how the tree's coming along. Scaffolding still up--they are still putting lights on for the big show (on tomorrow!).

A week ago:

Christmas circa 2009:

What I’ve been watching:
·      Revenge. So amazing. I kind of want to be Amanda Clarke.
·      Old episodes of Gossip Girl. If I can’t be Amanda Clarke, I’ll settle for Blair.

What I’ve been listening:
·      Christmas playlist on Pandora. Don’t judge.
·      Anything instrumental.
·      “Crush” by Dave Matthews.
·      “Broken” by Lifehouse.
·      Anything Britney Spears.

What I’ve been reading:
Frankly, not enough I’m afraid. Reading is pretty much dictated by your classes’ syllabi. Some favorites have to be Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, Isaac Asimov’s short story “The Bicentennial Man” (there’s a movie!) and Federico Garcia Lorca’s Yerma. My preferred work for reading pleasure during Thanksgiving break had to have been Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (by J. K. Rowling, if you live under a rock).

As you can see, I did not quite succeed in rereading the whole series over the summer. But that suits me very well, since rereading the fifth has gotten me into a very big Potter mood…

Which leads me into some of my web favorites for this month:

·      Best interpretation of Malfoy (besides Tom Felton, of course)
·      I am so obsessed with funny Harry Potter tumblrs. It’s a weird obsession, mostly tapped into at 3 in the morning while I’m working on an essay and need some sort of comic relief in my life.
·      I want this dress. It just happens to be $600 over my budget.

General Favorites:
·      Red nail polish.
·      Fires (in the fireplace)
·      Hot chocolate.
·      Old friends.

Hope you all had a happy November.

Now, onwards to December.

And it better be cold.

xx MD

Wish #11: Happy Thanksgiving

Wish 11: May everyone have a happy, healthy and safe place to go home to.

May the traditions last a lifetime.

May the holidays bring even more peace and tranquility.

May Walmart not take over the world and monopolize the Black Friday frenzy.

Wish #10

Wish 10: I wish finals never existed.

oh so true...

Wish #9

Wish 9: I wish the good moments lasted twice as long as the bad ones.

That being said, I wish school vacations lasted twice as long as school itself. ; )

Wish 8: The Start of a Tradition

Today was a fantastic day. I started my week-long Thanksgiving vacation by tailgating at the Harvard-Yale game. My family came and we met up with a bunch of our friends.

Family, good food, good fun, perfect fall weather.

What more can you ask for?

And then I got to go home. : )

I definitely see this becoming a tradition, a way to mark the start of the holiday season.

I guess my eighth wish is for it to stay this way. Comfortable, happy, peaceful.

Unfortunately I’d be lying to say today was completely perfect. There was an unfortunate, tragic accident at the tailgate in which one woman was killed and two others were injured by a truck. My sincerest thoughts go out to all involved and their families during this trying time.

This is just another reminder how we need to live each day to the fullest. Life is delicate and crazy and unpredictable.

A few photos from The Game….

Hope you had a fantastic Saturday!

11 Wishes...

...for 11/11/11.

Good morning! It’s 11:11 a.m.

So in honor of this most epic day, I figured I’m allowed to make 11 wishes. So greedy, but one can dream…

Wish 1: Snowfall on Christmas

With Thanksgiving break only a week away and the first snowfall of the year having already passed, I’m kind of antsy for it to get cold again…and for the holiday season to start. Snow on Christmas: kind of cliché, but living in New York where it has snowed on Christmas, I know it makes all the difference.

Have a fantastic day. Hope your wishes come true.

Absolutely beautiful.

This was my lovely view walking to class yesterday.

It made my whole day that much better.

Only one more week until Thanksgiving break. Can't wait.

Favorite Part of My Day

So it's 11:55 PM on a Friday night. I am sitting here in the library. Just chilling, studying. It was a good day. I slept seven hours, had an awesome Moosetracks milkshake (you can't get those in New York, or at least where I live...), met some new people and went to Shabbat dinner.

But the best part of my day?
