Going Home & Autumn
I know this post is long overdue but…
A couple weekends ago I went home for the first time since I left for college. And it was really, really nice.
The entire week before my trip home, I was super excited. I felt like I was going on vacation. And it really felt as if I was going on vacation when I realized I’d have to pack a bag to go home, since I actually had nothing (clothes, toiletries, nail polish) at home for me to use.
Home really is where your underwear is.
But it just felt so weird, being on the highway (hell, in my mother’s car to begin with) and see the “Welcome to New York” road sign. For a few seconds I felt like visitor…almost like a visitor.
There was the sense of familiar and the unfamiliar…
For one, it was great seeing this guy again.
For another, it was actually kind of weird not having a lofted bed with 298352 plastic storage containers beneath it. : )
They also happened to finish construction. So I came home to some brand spanking new sidewalks (such a win).
But above all it was just nice being home and doing homey things….like driving into town and getting Starbucks and browsing the farmer’s market.
I can’t really say it enough: I love October. Everything starts to get so colorful and warm and cozy and orange. I wanted to bring mini baby pumpkins back for all my suitemates, but there was a bad harvest or something and we couldn’t find any! : (
I am still trying to figure out how to decorate for Halloween. I want to enjoy it as much as possible.
In the end, though, while it was great being back home, I couldn’t wait to get back to dorm life. I missed my roommates, and my bed, and my college. : )
